As part of the policy component of the ACIDLOOP project, the project consortium has implemented several policy dialogue rounds with policy actors. The goal of these dialogues has been to exchange views on the role that policy and the environmental authorities can play in supporting MSMEs in the metal finishing sector in improving their resource efficiency.

As outcome of the first rounds of policy dialogue and in preparation to the second round, the project consortium had prepared a policy report on the role of technology transfer in the Indian metal finishing sector. It had been a result of the first dialogue that there is a mismatch and communication gap between some of the work done by research institution in the field of metal finishing and the technology needs of metal finishing MSMEs. The policy report targeted this issue, analysed the perceived mismatch or gap and came up with several recommendations on how to improve the technology transfer between research institutions and MSMEs in the Indian metal finishing sector.

Based on this report, the project team developed a shorter policy brief that summarised the findings of the report and presented the recommendations that were derived from the study. This policy brief was then discussed among a broad set of actors in the second round of policy dialogue. The inputs collected from the stakeholder during this event were then incorporated in a revised version of the policy brief.

The ACIDLOOP Case Studies contain information on resource efficiency measures which have been implemented in various companies. Each Case gives details on the situation prior to the intervention, the measures applied and the benefits obtained. The Case Studies are thought to showcase improvement potentials with relevant figures, such as investment sum, savings obtained and payback period. They can thus inspire SMEs to also realize such savings and serve as credentials that such improvements are possible.

ACIDLOOP

ACIDLOOP is a 4-year project (2012-2016) supported by the European Union (EU) under the SWITCH Asia Programme. This programme emphasizes sustainable consumption and production in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). ACIDLOOP is targeted specifically at the Indian metal finishing industry.  It aims to introduce technology innovation for acid recovery as well as resource efficiency that would lead to improved environmental quality and combat pollution.  The activities is taking place in various locations in northern, western and southern India.
